Tetiyette and The Devil

Tetiyette and The Devil", is a short story a Caribbean funeral tale about a seventeen-year-old Guadeloupan girl. Funeral tales are stories that are generally passed down orally from generation to generation. Story like this a very hard to survive and prosper over the years therefore they must be very special. While the story was very weird, the tale contained much deeper meaning than a young girl not wanting to marry two animals. The author was able to make us feel sad for the girl despite her emotions.

We all have heard the famous phrase from parents saying i told you so, I told you so, but pretty much every day. This story emphasizes that saying and takes it to an all-time high. In the book the girl cried out to her mom first and then her dad saying, "Oh, Papa! Oh, Papa!  The man to whom you've married me, is eating me up (Tetiyette, 3)! Tetiyette has turned her marrying a devil into her fathers’ fault, by blaming him for allowing it. She chose to not to get tom know her husband on the inside instead she fell for his outer image. She basically chose a rich man and ignore her mother's advice. That is the main the reason this story has been pass down for years around and been passed down to each generation. Every young adult can relate to this tale. Especially as teenagers, because everything seems as our parents are always bossy us around.
